McCaskill Throws Her Party Under the Bus: Their Plan ‘Not Important to Me’

Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) is trying to shed her partisan skin ahead of a tough reelection fight in a red state, and her latest tactic is to throw the national Democratic Party under the bus.

The Washington Post‘s Paul Kane reported this weekend that McCaskill considers the national party’s plans for 2018 “totally not important to me.”

From Kane (emphasis ours):

When it comes to Republicans, Democrats know what they want to campaign on. The trick is determining what they should talk about in terms of their own ideas.

Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri called the party’s plan “totally not important to me.”

“I think it’s a waste of time to talk about,” she said. “I’m pretty focused on what’s important at home.”

On the one hand, McCaskill will need Missouri voters to see her as more than just an Obama and Clinton supporter if she’s to win reelection in November. On the other, abandoning the national party could cause funding and support from D.C. to dry up for McCaskill, at a critical time no less.

It seems that the Missouri senator is caught between a rock and a hard place and, as usual, she’s trying to have it both ways.
