Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) is trying to run from Hillary Clinton and Clinton’s latest controversial comments degrading nearly half the country. Actually, at this rate, it’s more like McCaskill is trying to sprint from Clinton.

During a discussion at the India Today Conclave earlier this month, Clinton suggested that Trump supporters were “looking backwards” in 2016, and didn’t like African Americans “getting rights” or women “getting jobs.”

The Hill reported that McCaskill chastised Clinton in a Sunday interview on MSNBC, saying she should “be more careful and show respect to every American voter.”

“For those of us that are in states that Trump won we would really appreciate if she would be more careful and show respect to every American voter and not just the ones who voted for her,” McCaskill told MSNBC’s Kasie Hunt.

“I understand the point she was trying to make, but it felt like she was criticizing Missouri voters,” she said.

“I would draw a line there. I have great respect for Missouri voters, and there were a lot reasons why they voted for Donald Trump, some of them I understand,” she said.

Besides the curious fact that McCaskill said she “understand[s] the point [Clinton] was trying to make,” it seems highly doubtful McCaskill will be able to make voters forget her prior support for Clinton.

NTK Network pointed out earlier this month, though, that in 2016 McCaskill defended Clinton’s “deplorables” comment. And McCaskill is already subject to attack ads about Clinton’s controversial 2018 comments.

And Missouri Rising, a state chapter of America Rising Squared “focused on promoting conservative policies and shaping the debate in the Show Me State,” released an ad highlighting McCaskill’s ties to Clinton on Monday.

To employ a cliche, it seems McCaskill can run, but can’t hide, from Missouri voters in 2018.
