McConnell Trolls Democrats in Re-Election Announcement

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) officially announced he’s running for reelection on Wednesday, and his campaign expertly trolled Democrats on social media in the process on Wednesday.

McConnell’s team updated its website’s 404 error page to feature a picture of former President Barack Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, Judge Merrick Garland.

“Oops This Page Doesn’t Exist,” the website reads. “But just in case, go donate and make sure it doesn’t come back.”

Clicking on the donate button takes the user to a donation page that features a picture of McConnell with President Trump, accompanied by the text, “Donate and help Mitch keep fighting for us.”

“Let’s keep confirming conservative judges, cutting taxes, and keeping America strong,” the donation page reads.

McConnell famously, or infamously depending on your party affiliation, blocked the Senate from holding confirmation hearings for Garland in 2016.

This move by McConnell paved the way for President Trump to nominate Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, which maintained the conservative justice majority on the Supreme Court.

Twitter influencer Comfortably Smug first pointed out the change to McConnell’s campaign website:

The update to McConnell’s campaign website coincided with McConnell announcing his re-election campaign by releasing a three-minute video on Twitter.

The video highlights McConnell’s accomplishments as Senate majority leader, while featuring clips of Trump praising McConnell for his work.
