McConnell: We’ll Pass Tax Reform No Matter What Happens in Alabama

The Senate Majority Leader isn't concerned that Republicans could lose a vote on their tax plan.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) seemed unconcerned at a press conference on Tuesday when asked if the Alabama special election could affect GOP tax reform, even though the party can only afford to lose one vote on the measure.

Polls show a close race between Republican Roy Moore and Democrat Doug Jones, who are battling to replace appointed Sen. Luther Strange (R-AL). Accusations of pedophilia and child abuse have shelled Moore’s campaign in recent months.

Asked if the election came into the “calculus” of passing the bill, McConnell simply replied, “No.”

He pointed out that Strange would serve at least until the end of the current congressional session.
