House Freedom Caucus Chair Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) joined other Republican lawmakers on Tuesday to back Rep. Lee Zeldin’s (R-NY) resolution calling for a second special counsel to look into Department of Justice (DOJ) misconduct.

Meadows called on Attorney General Jeff Sessions to reconsider his decision to not appoint a second special counsel.

The leader of the House Freedom Caucus listed alleged abuses that the DOJ committed.

“[Deputy Attorney General] Rod Rosenstein and the Department of Justice, on a number of occasions when they could tell the truth, remain silent,” the Republican said. Meadows additionally accused Rosenstein of hiding the facts behind circumstances surrounding former FBI Director James Comey’s departure.

“It’s time that we get to the facts. It’s time that we appoint a second special counsel,” he said, praising Zeldin’s leadership.

Zeldin published the contents of the resolution Monday, and his proposal calls for an investigation into the investigation of the Trump campaign.
