Meyers: No Time to Address Hollywood’s Sexual Assault Hypocrisy at Golden Globes

"I think addressing that hypocrisy might be too big of a thing for us to handle in a Golden Globes monologue."

Comedian Seth Meyers, who will host the 75th Golden Globe Awards ceremony this year, said on Sunday it will be hard for him to address the hypocrisy in Hollywood over sexual assault during his opening monologue, because of the limited time he will have.

Meyers made the statement during an interview on the political podcast “Pod Save America” on Thursday.

Hollywood was rocked in 2017 by allegations from dozens of women that many of Hollywood’s biggest male stars and industry leaders committed acts of sexual assault on multiple occasions over the years.

What’s worse is that many of these women alleged that misconduct was widely known about in Hollywood circles, but no one ever acted on it until recently.

One of the hosts of “Pod Save America” asked Meyers how he plans to address what’s happening in Hollywood, and also how he would address the hypocrisy and failings of men in Hollywood.

“I have to be honest, I don’t know. I think we can address how awful the behavior was this year. I think addressing that hypocrisy might be too big of a thing for us to handle in a Golden Globes monologue,” Meyers responded. “Ultimately we have eight to ten minutes where you want to address, you know, the issues that we’ve talked about this year, but you also want to make sure you start talking and making jokes about the movies and the people in the room and try to remind people it’s also a celebration.”
