As Mitt Romney runs for U.S. Senate in Utah, one question that may be on the minds of voters is: who did Romney vote for in 2016?

After all, Romney called Trump a “con man” in a searing speech late in the 2016 GOP primary, and the current president called Romney a “Dope.”

So, did Romney pull the lever for Trump in 2016, despite their feud? Did he actually vote for Hillary Clinton?

Turns out the answer is: neither.

The Hill reported:

Mitt Romney revealed Wednesday that when it came time to vote for president in 2016, he wrote in his wife Ann’s name.

“I wrote in the name of a person who I admire deeply, who I think would be an excellent president,” Romney told the editorial boards of Deseret News and KSL. “I realized it wasn’t going to go anywhere, but nonetheless felt that I was putting in a very solid name.”

Whether this is new information or not to President Trump, it may be water under the bridge. The president endorsed Romney’s U.S. Senate campaign in February 2018, almost two years to the day from his “Dope” tweet.
