And then there were 19. Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA) officially entered the 2020 Democratic presidential primary on Monday, making him the 19th official candidate in the primary.

Moulton, a veteran, says his campaign will focus on national security. “I’m going talk about patriotism, about security, about service. These are issues Democrats too long have ceded to Republicans,” he said on “Good Morning America” on Monday.

At 40, Moulton would also be one of the youngest candidates in the field:

A 40-year-old Marine combat veteran who earned a Bronze Star in Iraq, Moulton’s stature has been rising since he won a seat in Congress in 2014 by defeating a long-time Democratic incumbent in a primary.

What’s not immediately clear is how Moulton plans to differentiate himself from the already-too-crowded field of Democratic presidential candidates. He’s best known for calling for a “new generation” of leadership, but that mantra began as a rallying cry to oust then-House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

“He’s hardly a household name and may struggle to stand out from the eight other male candidates,” NBC News’ Alex Seitz-Wald wrote on Monday.

Moulton raised just $255,000 in the first quarter of 2019 and had just over $700,000 in the bank. Raising money could prove to be a stumbling block for the Marine.

Moulton is the third candidate running for president from Massachusetts – Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) is already in the race, and former Gov. William Weld (R-MA) is running in the Republican primary against President Donald Trump.

Moulton is also the third current member of the House to announce a run. Reps. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI), Tim Ryan (D-OH), and Eric Swalwell (D-CA) are already in the race. Former Reps. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) and John Delaney (D-MD) are also running.
