Moulton: Pelosi’s Allies Haven’t Told Me to Stop Calling for New Leadership

"Look, the number of Pelosi allies who have told me you're doing the wrong thing and you need to back off is, so far, zero," Moulton said.

Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA) said that none of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s (D-MA) allies in Congress have told him to stop calling for a change in the Democratic Party’s leadership during an interview with Politico‘s “Off Message” podcast on Tuesday.

Politico‘s Edward-Isaac Dovere asked Moulton, who has called for new leadership inside the House Democratic caucus, whether he would consider running for speaker.

“Since I don’t sit around calculating my political future, I can’t tell you what I do plan to run for, but it’s a little easier to tell you what I don’t plan to run for, and honestly, I don’t have any interest in being the speaker,” Moulton said.

Moulton explained that in order to be an effective speaker, one has to be good at “transactional, inside politics,” and he said he’s not interested in that.

“I don’t think I was the best person to challenge Pelosi. I just heard a lot of people talking about it and nobody doing it, so I decided I’ll do it,” Moulton said. “I didn’t come at this because I was supporting Tim Ryan against [Pelosi]. I just said, ‘Let’s let other people run.'”

“Look, the number of Pelosi allies who have told me you’re doing the wrong thing and you need to back off is, so far, zero,” Moulton said. “I think a lot of people recognize that it’s time for a new generation of leadership. It’s time for change.”
