MSNBC’s morning program, “Morning Joe,” mocked Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s (D-NY) declaration that American “was never that great” at a rally on Wednesday.

MSNBC’s Willie Geist pointed out that the audience gasped when Cuomo stated his anti-American claim. Geist read both President Trump’s tweet attacking Cuomo and Cuomo’s response to the president.

“That is a tweet of a man whose skin has been gotten under,” journalist John Heilemann said. “Sorry, Governor Cuomo, that was just not a well-formulated tweet.”

Geist then read a statement from the governor’s spokesperson, claiming, “The governor believes America is great.” The panel burst out laughing at the comment, with MSNBC reporter Kasie Hunt shaking her head.

AP reporter Jonathan Lemire said that Cuomo’s “clumsy remark” gave an opening to his primary opponent, Cynthia Nixon. The panel speculated that Nixon was pulling the governor to the left.

Hunt jumped in to end the panel discussion, listing moral victories that America had accomplished in its history.
