MSNBC Contributor Blasts Biden’s Anita Hill Apology: You Were the Chair

"Why didn't you stick up for her when she was being ridiculed, and pilloried, and called a perjurer?"

MSNBC’s Ruth Marcus blasted former Vice President Joe Biden’s recent apology for his handling of the Anita Hill hearing in 1991 during a panel discussion on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports” on Wednesday.

“When Anita Hill came to testify, she faced a committee that didn’t fully understand what the hell it was all about,” Biden said during an event on Tuesday. “To this day, I regret I couldn’t come up with a way to get her the kind of hearing she deserved.”

“It was a different time. But it wasn’t so much of a different time,” Marcus said. “So my question really would be when the vice president says, ‘I wish I could have found a way to give her a fairer hearing,’ the question that arises is, ‘Well, you were the chairman of the committee Mr. Vice President, why didn’t you?”

“Why didn’t you stick up for her when she was being ridiculed, and pilloried, and called a perjurer, by the Republicans on the other side? Why didn’t you make certain that other witnesses were called rather than simply submitting their affidavits for the record?” Marcus asked.

“Apologies are good, but I think we need a little bit more explanation before we can move on from this,” Marcus said.
