MSNBC’s Alex Seitz-Wald said he expects Democrats running for Congress in 2018 to run away from House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), and that the “dam is breaking,” regarding the Democratic caucus’s support for Pelosi.

MSNBC’s Hallie Jackson asked Seitz-Wald if he believed more Democrats would run away from Pelosi in 2018.

“I do,” Seitz-Wald responded. “This was always something you heard in private, whispered behind the scenes from Democratic lawmakers, Democratic candidates.”

“I do think the dam is kind of breaking you’re seeing more and more people and more senior people speaking out against [her leadership],” Seitz-Wald said.

Seitz-Wald cited Republicans successfully tying Georgia Democrat Jon Ossoff to Pelosi in a special election, which resulted in Republican Karen Handel’s victory, as evidence of Pelosi being a drag on Democrats.

“There’s also a generational issue here. I mean the entire House leadership on the Democratic side is run by people in their seventies,” Seitz-Wald added. “There’s a younger crop of people coming in. This huge crop of candidates, a lot of them weren’t recruited but just stepped up themselves and aren’t super loyal to that leadership.”
