Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Mick Mulvaney, speaking at a Senate hearing on Tuesday, defended the Republican tax bill from attacks from Democrats like House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

“The revenues are actually up,” Mulvaney said of government income after the tax bill’s passage. The OMB director pointed out that when people’s incomes increased, tax revenue increased along with it.

“In 2027, we expect that the government will take in almost $350 billion more,” he added.

“Well, surely these are just crumbs right?” Sen. Cory Gardner (R-CO) joked in response. Gardner was referencing repeated comments from Pelosi that described the tax bill’s benefits for working Americans as “crumbs.”

“I’ve often wondered if $1,000 would be a crumb if it came in the form of a government check,” Mulvaney commented.
