House Judiciary Committee Chair Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) said that “obstruction of justice, if proven, would be impeachable” during an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday.

NBC’s Chuck Todd asked Nadler why he has not opened an impeachment inquiry into President Trump given the case for obstruction of justice that Special Counsel Robert Mueller lays out in his final report.

“I don’t think we’re doing that. We may get to that, we may not. As I’ve said before, it is our job to go through all the evidence, all the information we can get,” Nadler said. “And to go where the evidence leads us.”

Todd interjected and asked Nadler how much politics impacts the decision of whether to pursue impeachment.

“I don’t know. That will come down the road when we see what we have,” Nadler said.

Todd followed up by asking Nadler whether he thought the obstruction of justice laid out in the Mueller report is impeachable.

“Yeah, I do,” Nadler said. “I do think that this – if proven, if proven, which hasn’t been proven yet, some of this, if proven, some of this would be impeachable, yes. Obstruction of justice, if proven, would be impeachable.”
