Maryland Governor Larry Hogan’s (R-MD) campaign released a new web ad Tuesday highlighting how Democratic candidate for governor, Ben Jealous (D-MD), has repeatedly dodged reporters’ questions about how he intends to pay for his policy proposals.

The ad, which is titled, “Ben’s 5 D’s,” starts with a clip from the movie “DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story,” which highlights the five Ds of dodgeball: “dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge.”

What follows is a series of clips from five interviews in which reporters ask Jealous how he intends to pay for the high costs of his policy plans, and Jealous subsequently dodging these questions.

“We knew Ben Jealous is a disciple of Bernie Sanders, but we didn’t realize he was also a graduate of the Patches O’Houlihan school of dodgeball,” Hogan’s communication director Scott Sloofman said in a statement about the ad. “Jealous knows his risky schemes would mean massive, back-breaking tax hikes on Marylanders, and he’s using the 5 D’s of dodgeball (Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive, Dodge) to avoid owning up to it. No matter what Jealous says, or refuses to say, the fact remains that Maryland cannot afford Ben Jealous.”

A recent analysis by Maryland’s nonpartisan Department of Legislative Services’ found that Jealous’ proposed a single-payer health care plan that would cost $24 billion a year. Jealous has yet to say how he would pay for such a plan.
