The Republican Governors Association (RGA) released a new TV ad Tuesday titled “Fire,” which attacks Maryland’s Democratic candidate for governor, Ben Jealous, for his health care plan that could cost $24 billion a year.

“If tax-and-spend Ben Jealous wins, you might as well do this to your money,” the ad’s narrator says, as money is lit on fire.

“Jealous would raise your taxes, and The Washington Post warns he would blow a Chesapeake Bay-sized hole in the state budget,” the ad’s narrator says. “A nonpartisan analysis says his health care plan could cost $24 billion. An extra $2,800 from the pocket of every man, woman, and child.”

The ad is referring to a nonpartisan analysis conducted by Maryland’s Department of Legislative Services, which found that Jealous’ single-payer health care plan would cost $24 billion a year.

“Even Democrats say Jealous would destroy our economy. If Ben Jealous wins, Maryland taxpayers lose,” the ad’s narrator said.

This is the RGA’s second TV ad in the Maryland governor’s race.

“If Ben Jealous wins, Maryland taxpayers may as well set their money on fire,” RGA Communications Director Jon Thompson said in a statement. “Jealous would raise Maryland taxes to never-before-seen levels to fund his experimental healthcare plan, forcing every man, woman and child in the state to pay a $2,800 tax. That’s why even Democrats are admitting that Ben Jealous would destroy Maryland’s economy.”
