CNN’s new chief, WarnerMedia CEO John Stankey, has donated thousands of dollars to Republicans and their affiliated groups, including thousands in indirect donations to the Trump Victory fund.

According to FEC filings, Stankey made monthly contributions to AT&T Federal PAC throughout the 2016 cycle, ultimately totaling about $5,700 prior to the election. He donated $750 in 2016 following the election.

AT&T donated to Democrats and Republicans alike, but its two largest contributions went to House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) and President Donald Trump. The PAC gave donations of $65,000 to both Ryan and Trump, contributing to the Trump Victory fund a month after the 2016 election.

Personally, Stankey donated thousands to other Republican groups. The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), and Sen. John Thune (R-SD) all received contributions from Stankey totaling over $1,000 each.

Stankey runs WarnerMedia, CNN’s parent company, making him the de facto head of the network. The CEO previously worked as an executive at AT&T, but moved to the media side to integrate the wireless company’s new acquisition at Time-Warner.

CNN’s vocal opposition to the president could present some tension with their new GOP-supporting boss.

He appeared on CNN for an interview Monday morning.
