New Hampshire Voters Worry Warren Is Not Electable

A Suffolk University poll released Tuesday found that New Hampshire voters aren’t supporting Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) because they do not believe that she can defeat President Trump in a general election.

The poll placed Warren in fourth among the 24 potential Democratic candidates presented with just 8 percent supporting her candidacy.

Warren trailed former Vice President Joe Biden, who was atop the poll with 20 percent, and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D-IN), who are tied in second at 12 percent.

“Warren’s overall fourth-place standing in the New Hampshire Democratic primary poll runs counter to historical trends,” Suffolk University pointed out in their summary of the poll. “Massachusetts politicians vying in an open Democratic primary—John Kennedy in 1960, Michael Dukakis in 1988, Paul Tsongas in 1992, and John Kerry in 2004—have won in New Hampshire.”

When non-Warren Democratic voters were asked why they did not support her, 18 percent said it was because they believed Warren could not beat Trump in the general election.

Another 11 percent of New Hampshire voters said they did not support Warren because she doesn’t excite them, and 10 percent said Warren “comes off as angry.” Nine percent of New Hampshire voters said they weren’t supporting Warren because her policies “are too liberal.”
