New Poll Finds a Majority of Americans Now Support The GOP Tax Bill

According to a poll conducted by the New York Times and SurveyMonkey, a majority of Americans approve of the GOP tax bill, which could give Democrats big problems in the upcoming midterm elections.

The poll, released Monday, found that 51 percent of Americans approve of the GOP tax bill, which is up from the 46 percent in January.

The New York Times poll also found that support for the GOP tax bill has doubled among Democrats since the measure passed in December.

“Public opinion is moving in the direction of this bill,” Jon Cohen, the chief research officer for SurveyMonkey, told the New York Times about the poll’s findings.

This poll is in line with other polls that show growing support for the GOP plan, which could be problematic for Democrats given their lack of support for the legislation and tone-deaf comments made about the benefits Americans are receiving because of the GOP tax bill.

Since the GOP tax bill became law, over 300 companies have announced they would giving their employees bonuses because of the tax change.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has called these bonuses “crumbs” and “pathetic” on multiple occasions.

Republicans have used these comments by Pelosi to paint the 77-year old Minority Leader as out-of-touch with working Americans.

This impression of Pelosi might not improve as the “Tax Policy Center in Washington estimates that four in five Americans will actually see a tax cut from the law this year,” according to the article.
