New Poll Finds Hawley Leading McCaskill, 49-45

A new poll released on Monday morning spells trouble for vulnerable Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO), who is fighting for her political life in a tough 2018 reelection campaign.

The poll, conducted by Republican pollster Remington Research and released first to Politico‘s Morning Score, has Attorney General Josh Hawley (R-MO) leading McCaskill by four points.

Politico‘s write-up:

EARLY POLLING DATA — GOP IVR poll gives Hawley lead in Missouri: Republican IVR pollster Remington Research is out with a new poll of the Missouri Senate race, giving Republican Josh Hawley a 49 percent to 45 percent lead over Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill. Trump’s approval rating in the state stands at an even 50 percent, with 44 percent disapproval. The poll of 1,122 likely voters has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.9 percentage points. Full results here.

In 2015, McCaskill bragged of helping GOP candidate Todd Akin win his primary to face her in 2012 – “so I could beat him later,” the op-ed headline reads – but she may not have such luck in 2018. Hawley is considered a strong candidate to face McCaskill in the fall. This poll further supports that claim.
