New Poll Has Biden Up Big in Michigan’s Democratic Primary

Former Vice President Joe Biden, who has not yet announced whether he will run for president in 2020, has a big lead over the 12 declared Democratic presidential candidates in Michigan, according to a new Emerson College poll released on Tuesday.

The poll found that 40 percent of Michigan Democratic voters support Biden, followed by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) who received 23 percent support in the poll.

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) came in third with 12 percent, followed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) with 11 percent.

According to Emerson Polling:

“With Biden not officially in the race, the Emerson poll asked Biden voters who their second choice would be; Sanders would be the most popular alternative with 42%, followed by Harris at 23%, and Warren at 18%. Sanders received 50% of the vote in the 2016 Michigan Democratic Primary.”

The poll had some good news for President Trump, who, despite having a 40-percent approval rating in the state, is within the poll’s margin of error in potential 2020 general election match-ups with all the Democratic candidates except Biden, who Trump trails by eight points.

As for Sen. Gary Peters’ (D-MI) reelection campaign, the poll found him in a statistical tie with 2018 Republican Senate candidate John James
