New Poll: Hawley Leads McCaskill in Missouri Senate Race

Attorney General Josh Hawley (R-MO) is running neck-and-neck with Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) as one of the nation’s top U.S. Senate races heads into the heat of summer.

According to the Washington Examiner, the Hawley campaign released the results of their internal poll in a memo to supporters recently:

The survey, conducted by Hawley pollster Wes Anderson of OnMessage Inc., showed the Missouri attorney general narrowly edging McCaskill, 47 percent to 46 percent. President Trump’s job approval is strong, at 53 percent, and Republicans hold an advantage of 3 percentage points on the generic ballot.

The results of the OnMessage poll track with the results of a Mason-Dixon poll released earlier this month that found McCaskill leading by only one point. The result was within the margin of error and came as McCaskill’s approval ratings drop from quarter to quarter.

Emerson College also has a new poll of the Missouri U.S. Senate race, and found it is a “toss up, 45 [percent], 45 [percent],” between Hawley and McCaskill. A representative of Emerson College polling said:

“What’s interesting is McCaskill has stronger name recognition, she’s known more well in the district … if you were McCaskill you’d like to see her up a few more points, considering she’s got such a name recognition advantage.”

Every poll result involving McCaskill – whether it’s her race with Hawley or her approval ratings – suggest she is in a very vulnerable position going forward. What will the next six months of campaigning bring?
