New Poll: McCaskill Clinging to One-Point Lead as Approvals Drop

Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) clings to a one-point lead in the U.S. Senate race in Missouri, a result within the margin of error, as her approval ratings drop from quarter to quarter.

That was the result of a new poll from Mason-Dixon, as reported by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Thursday.

The poll has McCaskill at 45 percent, Hawley 44, with 11 percent undecided. The firm interviewed 625 registered voters, and had a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

The matchup mirrors many of the national splits between Republicans and Democrats and how Donald Trump won the presidency in 2016.

NTK Network noted on Friday that McCaskill’s net approval rating has dropped 13 points since the beginning of 2017 and is now in negative territory.

If McCaskill keeps falling, it seems certain that Attorney General Josh Hawley (R-MO), her top-tier Republican opponent, will take a polling lead by the fall.
