Some Democratic U.S. Senate and gubernatorial candidates in the Rust Belt appear to be in good shape with six weeks to Election Day, according to new polls released by Reuters and NBC News. Others, though – specifically Sen. Joe Donnelly (D-IN) and Ohio Democratic gubernatorial candidate Richard Cordray – are in for a fight.

NBC News polled the Ohio gubernatorial and U.S. Senate races, while Reuters polled Ohio and four other states where President Trump won surprise victories in 2016: Indiana, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan.

NBC found that Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), the staunchly liberal incumbent, is up a comfortable 13 points on Rep. Jim Renacci (R-OH) in the U.S. Senate contest. Cordray, the Ohio Democrat gubernatorial candidate, is all knotted up with GOP opponent Mike DeWine.

Reuters, meanwhile, polled gubernatorial and U.S. Senate contests in five states. Their U.S. Senate polls found Donnelly in trouble, but his other Democratic colleagues up for reelection in good shape in historically blue states with 41 days to Election Day.

  • IN-Sen.: Donnelly 46%, Republican Mike Braun 43% (Donnelly +3)
  • OH-Sen.: Brown 50%, Renacci 39% (Brown +11)
  • MI-Sen.: Democrat Debbie Stabenow 55%, Republican John James 35% (Stabenow +20)
  • PA-Sen.: Democrat Bob Casey 53%, Republican Lou Barletta 37% (Casey +16)
  • WI-Sen.: Democrat Tammy Baldwin 52%, Republican Leah Vukmir 39% (Baldwin +13)

On the gubernatorial front, Reuters found DeWine leading Cordray by one, with Democrats up in three other gubernatorial contests.

  • OH-Gov.: DeWine 45%, Cordray 44% (DeWine +1)
  • MI-Gov.: Democrat Gretchen Whitmer 52%, Republican Bill Schuette 39% (Whitmer +13)
  • PA-Gov.: Democrat Tom Wolf 55%, Republican Scott Wagner 38% (Wolf +17)
  • WI-Gov.: Democrat Tony Evers 50%, Republican Scott Walker 43% (Evers +7)

Based on these polls, the Indiana U.S. Senate and Ohio gubernatorial races seem like the Rust Belt races to watch between now and November.
