U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley blasted the Russian Federation for its support of the Assad regime at a meeting of the United Nations Security Council. Haley focused on Assad’s practice of blocking humanitarian aid to Syrian refugees.

“Many of you said, ‘we need to put pressure on the Syrian regime.’ That’s actually not the case,” Haley said. “We need to put pressure on Russia.”

Haley criticized the Russian ambassador’s concerted effort to delay action in Syria.

“And I listened to my Russian colleague, and he talked about task forces and diplomacy and less criticism of the Syrian regime. Where has that gotten us?” Haley asked. “It hasn’t gotten us anywhere.”

“The times where we could actually do something as a Security Council – who’s the one member state that continues to protect the regime that’s keeping this humanitarian assistance from going through?” Haley asked, targeting her question at Russia.

Haley slammed Russia for continuing to prop up the Assad regime, even after its repeated human rights violations.

“All eyes and all pressure now need to go to Russia, because they are the ones that could stop this if they wanted to,” she said.
