No One Showed Up to a Pro-DACA Rally on Monday

Tim Kaine was only one of a few in attendance. Applause was scattered and sad.

Supporters of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program rallied outside the U.S. Capitol on Monday, but their event only drew a small number of attendees. As the organizers introduced Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA), the Democratic Vice Presidential nominee in 2016, the ostensibly big-name speaker failed to draw more than a smattering of applause.

Less than 10 DACA supporters stood behind Kaine, while two large speakers, more befitting of a larger rally, flanked the senator.

Kaine cited his family’s own immigrant history in supporting DACA recipients. The senator switched to Spanish, which he speaks fluently, at various points in his remarks.
