NRSC Seeks to Tie Vulnerable Dems to One Democrat With a Toxic Brand

The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) is releasing a new set of ads tying 10 Democrats running in 2018 swing states to the Democratic Party’s 2016 presidential nominee: Hillary Clinton.

Roll Call reported on Monday morning:

New digital ads released Monday will run in the 10 states won by President Donald Trump in 2016 where Democratic senators are seeking re-election. The videos, which will be seen on Facebook, show footage of recent remarks made by Clinton in Mumbai, India, where she said Trump’s campaign platform was “looking backwards.” The videos also highlight her saying during the 2016 race that half of Trump’s supporters could be put into a “basket of deplorables.”

Roll Call also shared one sample of the ads, specifically targeting Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL).

In comments first reported by NTK Network, Clinton told a crowd in India that, in 2016, “I won the places that are optimistic, diverse, dynamic, moving forward,” and Trump’s campaign and supporters were “looking backwards.”

Clinton also said that she lost in 2016 in part because women who voted for Trump were the victim “of ongoing pressure to vote the way that your husband, your boss, your son, whoever, believes you should.”

After days of national backlash to her comments, Clinton released a long Facebook post in which she further explained her comments but did not apologize to Trump’s supporters.
