The New York Times’ Nicholas Kristof said that under President Trump, America had taken a tougher approach to Moscow than the previous administration during an interview following the U.S. missile strike on Syria.

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow asked Kristof what he thought about President Trump’s decision to launch a missile strike on Syria.

“You know, I started off with a deep suspicion about anything that President Trump does, but in this case actually I think he did the right thing,” Kristof told Maddow.

“I was interviewing Hillary Clinton earlier today, and she prescribed pretty much exactly the same response, hitting airfields in Syria with missiles.”

MSNBC’s Brian Williams then asked Kristof if this affected the storyline regarding President Trump and Russia.

“It certainly does. I mean in general, I think a lot of us worried that after President Trump took office, there would be a lot of very close cooperation with Russia and lifting of sanctions,” Kristof told Williams.

Kristof went on to say since President Trump had assumed the office that what we’ve actually seen is a “tougher approach to Moscow” than people would have thought.
