Obama’s Foreign Policy Failures in Spotlight as He Returns to the Public Eye

President Obama made his first public appearance since leaving the White House on Monday in Chicago, but a number of newsmakers also made it a bad day for Obama’s foreign policy legacy.

First came a new Politico investigation, published early Monday, that found Obama’s infamous Iran nuclear deal destroyed U.S. efforts to contain Iran’s nuclear ambitions. The administration released Iranian prisoners who were once deemed national security threats and hampered America’s efforts to stop Iranian nuclear proflieration, Politico reported.

Then came an apology from Obama’s ambassador to the U.N., Samantha Power, on the administration’s inability to recognize the Armenian Genocide:

Obama’s failure to recognize the genocide was ruled a broken promise by PolitiFact, dating back to the Illinois senator’s first run for president in 2008.

These two pieces of news also came on the heels of President Trump’s airstrikes against Syrian government facilities, which highlighted for many the belief that President Obama failed to take meaningful action on Syria during his two terms.

It may have been bad timing for President Obama to return to the public eye this week, given all the attention on his foreign policy failures.
