Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took to Twitter Tuesday to complain about press coverage she is receiving in Washington, D.C. publications.

“One disappointment about DC is the gossip that masquerades as ‘reporting,’” she tweeted Tuesday afternoon.

The specific story Ocasio-Cortez was referencing focused on her desire to find a primary challenger to Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).

“It’s personal for Ocasio,” a person with knowledge of the situation told Politico. “And she’s going to go all out to take him out.”

Politico’s anonymous sources also said that Jeffries’ seat is the “highest priority” primary target for Ocasio-Cortez.

Politico also reported that Ocasio-Cortez has already “recruited an African-American woman to challenge Jeffries.”

“My dad had a name for junk articles like this: ‘birdcage lining,’” she said in a tweet.

In a follow up tweet, Ocasio-Cortez lamented the coverage she has received in Politico specifically and the fact that a print version of the publication is distributed to each congressional office.

“It’s really unfortunate,” she said in a tweet.

Politico responded to Ocasio-Cortez’s complaints Wednesday morning with a statement of its own Wednesday morning:
