Omar Issues An Apology But Won’t Say For What

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) issued an apology on Monday but wouldn’t say it was for the anti-Semitic tweets she made on Sunday.

Omar tweeted recycled old tropes that Jewish money fuels U.S. backing for Israel on Sunday. These comments have since been condemned by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) along with other top Democrats.

“Listening and learning, but standing strong,” Omar tweeted with her statement attached.

“Anti-Semitism is real and I am grateful for Jewish allies and colleagues who are educating me on the painful history of anti0Semitic tropes,” Omar wrote. “My intention is never to offend my constituents or Jewish Americans as a whole. We have to always be willing to step back and thing though criticism, just as I expect people to hear me when others attack me for my identity. This is why I unequivocally apologize.”

“At the same time, I reaffirm the problematic role of lobbyists in our politics, whether it be AIPAC, the NRA or fossil fuel industry. It’s gone on too long and we must be will to address it.”

Omar never identifies what it is she is apologizing for. She was attacked on Twitter for her non-apology.
