In an appearance on CNN Monday night, Stormy Daniels’ lawyer Michael Avenatti faced questions over his threatening email to reporters of The Daily Caller, telling them that he would sue over claims in one of their reports.

“Cut it Out,” Avenatti wrote in the subject of the email. “We will expose your publication for what it truly is. We will also recover significant damages against each of you that participated personally.”

He was responding to a story by the Daily Caller’s Peter Hasson and Joe Simonson that exposed alleged unethical behavior at a company he bought out of bankruptcy. Here’s the full email:

CNN’s Don Lemon asked Avenatti about the email. “What’s that about?” Lemon inquired, reading the email out loud.

“All attorneys are not ethical,” Avenatti said. “All journalists are not ethical, just because they’re journalists. There’s good journalists, and there’s bad journalists.”

The lawyer told Lemon that he would continue to “call out” journalists he sees as unethical.

Lemon first agreed with the lawyer, but he then brought up the fact that Avenatti had criticized Michael Cohen for similar behavior.

“You’re talking apples and oranges,” he responded, comparing his email to a cease-and-desist order.

“Why’d you put it off the record?” Lemon asked.

“Because I was concerned they were actually going to print it,” he admitted.
