"I'm not distancing myself. But I don't want anyone coming in from the outside. I want the people of Texas to decide this on, on their own terms."

Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) said Sunday that he doesn’t want any Democrats who are not from Texas coming to stump for him before his U.S. Senate election against Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX).

O’Rourke made the comments during an interview with CBS’s “60 Minutes.”

“60 Minutes” pointed out to O’Rourke that his campaign hasn’t had “a lot of the stars of the Democratic Party” come out for him, namely former President Barack Obama, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).

“Are you trying to distance yourself from the party?” CBS News’s Jon Wertheim asked O’Rourke.

“I’m not distancing myself. But I don’t want anyone coming in from the outside. I want the people of Texas to decide this on, on their own terms,” O’Rourke said.
