Panetta Advises Democrats Against Impeaching Trump Until After Mueller Investigation

"No not at all," Panetta said. "I think the most important thing that the Democrats could do is to allow Bob Mueller to complete his work."

Former White House Chief of Staff to President Bill Clinton, Leon Panetta said that Democrats should wait to call for impeaching President Trump until after Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation is completed during an interview on Sunday.

ABC’s Martha Raddatz asked Panetta whether he thought it was wise for House Democrats to start impeachment proceedings if they retake the House after the 2018 midterm elections.

“No not at all,” Panetta said. “I think the most important thing that the Democrats could do is to allow Bob Mueller to complete his work.”

Panetta then told Raddatz that Mueller’s report will decide if additional steps like impeachment need to be taken, and Democrats should not get ahead of that report.
