House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) dodged on whether House Democrats would impeach Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh if he is confirmed and Democrats retake the House following the midterm elections. Pelosi added that enough people are on her “back” to impeach President Trump while speaking at The Atlantic Ideas Forum on Tuesday.

CNN’s Dana Bash asked Pelosi whether she would move to impeach Kavanaugh from the Supreme Court, if confirmed, or from his current position on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, given the allegations that have surfaced of sexual misconduct against Kavanaugh.

“Let’s take it one day at a time. We are not about impeachment,” Pelosi said about Democrats.

Pelosi then dodged the question by explaining that if Democrats retake the House, they would be about “unity” before rattling off several Democratic talking points about their agenda.

“That would not be my plan,” Pelosi said about impeachment.

Bash then pressed Pelosi on what she meant by that statement.

“I’m not about impeachment. I have enough people on my back to impeach the president,” Pelosi said.

Bash then asked Pelosi whether her reluctance to talk about impeachment was because it would ignite the Republicans against Democrats in the upcoming elections.

“I think that politics has nothing to do with it. We shouldn’t impeach for a political purpose and we should not be reluctant to impeach if there’s a case to be made,” Pelosi said.
