Pelosi on the Growing Number of Democrats Calling for New Leadership: ‘I Don’t Care.’

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said that she doesn’t care about the growing number of House Democrats and Democratic candidates who have said they believe the party should have new leadership if they win back control of the House in 2018 during an interview with the New York Times published on Thursday.

According to the New York Times, “about 60 Democratic House candidates have said that they prefer new leadership if the party wins back the House in November.”

“I don’t care,” Pelosi told the Times. “Let them do whatever they want. We have to win the election.”

During a recent interview with NBC, Pelosi blamed the network for promoting challenges to her leadership claiming that it was one of the networks’ “priorities to undermine my prospects as Speaker.

Pelosi reiterated that sentiment to the Times, saying “it was ‘perplexing’ that the news media — or anyone else — would seek to game out the power politics of the Democratic caucus in the midst of a campaign.”

In the interview, Pelosi also expressed confidence that Democrats would win back the House in 2018 and elect a Democratic president in 2020.

“What I have always tried to do is build a bridge to the future, and hope that would be in the majority,” Pelosi told the Times. “If people want to be the bridge that I’m building toward, they have to show what’s on the other side of the bridge.”
