House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) will campaign with Democratic congressional candidate Deb Haaland in New Mexico on Tuesday.

Haaland recently drew national attention for her speech at NetRoots Nation, where she declared that she would be the “first Native American woman in Congress.”

“If elected, I’ll be the first Native American woman in Congress,” Haaland said on Friday. “I recognize that we are on indigenous land, and I approach you with respect for the tribes whose homeland we stand on now.”

Haaland’s comments came just minutes before Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) took the stage at NetRoots, and were seen as a dig at Warren, who has claimed for years to be a descendant of Native Americans but has refused to provide adequate proof to support her claim.
