Pence Announces Date for U.S. Embassy Opening in Jerusalem

Vice President Mike Pence made a major announcement regarding the U.S. embassy in Israel on Monday morning: the embassy is moving to Jerusalem in 2019.

The announcement was met with positive reaction from Israeli officials. Nir Barkat, the mayor of Jerusalem, tweeted in praise of Pence’s and President Donald Trump’s “true commitment to our eternal capital.”

Tzipi Hotovely, Israel’s deputy minister of foreign affairs, thanked Pence.

And earlier, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, an ally of the Trump administration, tweeted his welcome to Pence.

It’s safe to say the first leg of Pence’s trip is being received well by allies of the Trump administration in Israel.
