Following President Trump’s announcement that a coalition of U.S., U.K., and French air and missile forces struck Syria Friday night, the Pentagon revealed that the operation targeted three sites closely affiliated with the Assad regime’s chemical capabilities.

General Joseph Dunford, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, told a press conference that the United States struck the following three sites:

  • “Scientific research center,” Damascus – a facility that pursued the research and production of chemical and biological weapons.
  • Chemical weapons storage facility, west of Homs – the “primary” storage space for the Syrian sarin stockpile, according to Dunford.
  • Chemical weapons equipment storage, west of Homs – this target, near the second, contained a regional “command post.”

Dunford said that the coalition’s strikes will lead to the “long term degradation” of the Syrian chemical weapons program.
