Plurality of Americans: Confirm Kavanaugh to Supreme Court

Quinnipiac University released a new poll this week that confirms a plurality of Americans want the U.S. Senate to confirm Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

From their release:

The U.S. Senate should confirm Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court, 44 percent of voters say, while 39 percent oppose his confirmation. Men back confirmation 49 – 36 percent. Women are divided as 38 percent support confirmation, with 41 percent opposed.

The +5 percentage points in support of confirmation is an improvement for Kavanaugh from July, when 40 percent of voters wanted the Senate to confirm Kavanaugh and 41 percent were opposed.

An overwhelming 81 percent of Republicans want the Senate to confirm Kavanaugh. More importantly, 44 percent of independents want the Senate to confirm Kavanaugh and only 36 percent are opposed.

Support among Democrats for confirming Kavanaugh is low (eight percent), but is higher than the amount of Republicans who are opposed to Kavanaugh (five percent).
