Austin police warned citizens on Monday that three packages, left outside homes in past weeks, have exploded after being handled by the residents. Police Chief Brian Manley urged residents at a press conference that they should call the police if any suspicious packages are left on their doorstep.

“These devices can explode in many ways, either by being moved or by being opened,” Manley told reporters. “If you see something that’s out of place, do not handle it, do not move it, do not touch it. Call us.”

The chief said that the three victims so far “have gone out and they have handled” the packages.

A 17 year old man died in a bomb attack earlier Monday, and an older woman was injured in the later explosion. Another explosion on March 2 is similar to the current attacks, police said.
