Rep. Jared Polis (D-CO) has called for President Donald Trump to release his tax returns. However, Polis, who wants to be the next governor of Colorado, is not releasing his own.

The Colorado Sun‘s John Frank reported:

Jared Polis demanded that Donald Trump release his tax returns and helped lead an attempt in Congress to force the Republican candidate to do so.

Now, Polis won’t release his own tax returns as the Democratic nominee for governor in Colorado.

Instead of admitting any hypocrisy on his part, Polis is seeking to turn the spotlight on Republican Walker Stapleton. Polis said Tuesday, “After Walker Stapleton releases seven years (of his tax returns), I’m happy to talk about releasing more.”

Of course, Polis likely hand-picked the seven years of returns he released to the public.

Frank pointed out that on September 11, 2014, Gov. John Hickenlooper (D-CO) and Bob Beauprez, his Republican opponent in the 2014 Colorado gubernatorial race, voluntarily released their tax returns.

Frank also noted in his story that Polis’s refusal to release more than seven years of returns comes as the Republican Governors Association (RGA) claims Polis didn’t pay income taxes for five years in the 2000s.

The refusal from the Boulder congressman comes at a time when his tax history is facing scrutiny in a campaign commercial sponsored by the Republican Governors Association that notes he didn’t pay income taxes for five years in the 2000s — a revelation that first came to light in a prior congressional bid.

This could cast a shadow over Polis’s effort to be Colorado’s next governor.
