Politico Calls Out Dem Senator’s ‘Pro-Life’ Claims

If Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) is as pro-life as he claims to be, the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL) and Planned Parenthood may want to re-examine their pro-choice ratings. Casey has claimed throughout his career to be a “pro-life” Democrat like his father, “[b]ut his voting record paints a different picture,” Politico’s Jennifer Haberkorn writes.

According to the Politico report, Casey’s pro-life claims fall apart when examining his time in Congress.

In fact, NARAL gave the senator a 100-percent rating over the past few years.

After a decade in the Senate, Casey has become an increasingly reliable vote in support of abortion rights — scoring as high as 100 percent on NARAL Pro-Choice America’s vote tally in 2016 and 2017. Anti-abortion groups insist he’s no champion of their cause — and view him as unlikely to support President Donald Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court, whose confirmation will be a proxy battle on the future of Roe v. Wade.

Casey’s father, Bob Casey, Sr., the beloved former governor of Pennsylvania, was famously pro-life and sacrificed his standing in the Democratic Party over the issue. In fact, the party denied his request to give a speech at the 1992 convention over the issue.

No one stopped the younger Casey from speaking at the 2016 convention.
