One of the biggest issues facing Congress in the new year is what to do with so-called DREAMers: young, undocumented immigrants, most of whom were brought to the United States by their parents at a young age.

President Trump held a meeting with lawmakers on the subject this week. Most of the meeting was televised.

A new poll shows that most Americans want a solution that allows DREAMers to stay in the United States.

Morning Consult and Politico found, in a poll released this week, that 75 percent of Americans either want DREAMers to “be allowed to stay and become citizens” (54 percent) or “be allowed to stay and become legal residents, but NOT citizens” (21 percent).

This includes 64 percent of Republicans (39 percent support citizenship, 25 percent support legal status).

Trump seems committed to finding a solution to the problem, but is holding out for efforts to build his border wall.

Lawmakers and the White House have until March before DACA expires.
