Poll: Almost 60% of Californians Support Increasing Deportations

While a new poll shows that Californians value diversity and inclusion, a majority of California residents support increasing deportations of illegal aliens. Additionally, nearly half of the state supports President Trump’s travel ban targeting Muslim-majority countries.

The survey, conducted by UC Berkeley’s Haas Institute, found that a majority of the state think it is “important” to increase deportation, according to The Mercury News. Even in the famously liberal San Francisco area, 60 percent supported the accelerated removal of illegal aliens:

About 24 percent of the survey’s participants said it’s “very important” for the U.S. to increase deportations of undocumented immigrants, while 35 percent said it’s “somewhat important,” according to the poll. That viewpoint even held true in the Bay Area, where 25 percent of those surveyed said increasing deportations is very important and 35 percent said it’s somewhat important.

And when asked if the United States should ban people from Muslim-majority countries from entering the country, 49 percent of Californians voiced support for a version of the president’s proposed plan.

It could be that much of the traditionally liberal state is not willing to sacrifice security or American laws in pursuit of more liberal ideals.
