POLL: Americans Agree With Trump’s Iran Decision

A new poll reveals that a majority of U.S. voters agree with President Donald Trump’s decision to call off a retaliatory strike on Iran.

Last week, the Middle East country shot down a U.S. drone that it claimed entered Iranian air space. U.S. officials and Trump strongly dispute that claim.

The president initially ordered a retaliatory strike on Iran but called off the attack after the initial order had been given.

Now, a poll reveals that 65 percent of voters agree with Trump’s decision to hold off on the strike. Just 14 percent said they opposed Trump’s decision, per the Politico/Morning Consult poll.

But the poll did indicate that generally speaking, Americans oppose military action in Iran.

More generally, 42 percent of voters in the new poll said they oppose military action in the country.

Just over one-third — 36 percent — of voters support military action in Iran, and 22 percent said they have no opinion.

Pollsters found that 59 percent of self-identified Republicans support further military action, compared to   23 percent among Democrats and 28 percent among independents.

The poll was conducted June 21-24, surveyed 1,991 registered voters, and has a margin of error of 2 percentage points.
