Poll: Biden Continues to Lead 2020 Dems, But His Margin is Slipping Away

Former Vice President Joe Biden continues to lead the 2020 Democratic presidential primary field, according to a new poll released by Morning Consult on Wednesday.

Biden earned 26 percent of the vote, followed by those who said they weren’t sure or didn’t have an opinion at 18 percent. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) followed with 16 percent.

But perhaps most importantly at this stage is the movement among candidates. While Biden had the support of 26 percent in this most recent poll, he had 32 percent in the previous week’s poll, making that a 6-percentage-point drop for the former veep.

Meanwhile, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), who formally announced her intentions to run for president on Monday, saw a jump of 3 percentage points. She earned 9 percent support and was the third highest in the poll, after Biden and Sanders.

It’s just shy of a year before Democrat voters will start heading to the caucuses and primaries, and a whole lot will change between now and then, but this poll sets the table for an interesting 2020 primary so far.
