POLL: Democrat Enthusiasm Suffers Major Drop from 2018

Democrats have lost one of their key advantages that aided their takeover of the House majority in 2018: voter enthusiasm.

A new poll from NBC News/Wall Street Journal showed that 75 percent of Republicans are very enthusiastic about the 2020 presidential election, while just 73 percent of Democrats said the same thing.

That’s a massive change from 2018, when Democrats held a double-digit lead in enthusiasm:

In the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, 75 percent of Republican registered voters say they have high interest in the 2020 presidential election — registering a “9” or “10” on a 10-point scale — versus 73 percent of Democratic voters who say the same thing.

Overall voter enthusiasm is also up. Sixty-nine percent of all voters expressed a “high level of interest” in the upcoming election. According to NBC News, that’s just three percentage points shy of the 72 percent who said the same in October of 2016. With more than 500 days until the 2020 election, that’s a startling statistic.

And among independents, there’s some good news for President Trump as well. A plurality of independents, 45 percent, said Congress should not hold impeachment hearings. Only 19 percent believe there is enough evidence to begin impeachment proceedings now.
