Attorney General Patrick Morrisey (R-WV) is gaining ground on Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) in one of the top U.S. Senate races in the country, according to an internal poll shared with The Hill on Thursday.

West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey (R) and Sen. Joe Manchin (D) are in a dead heat in West Virginia’s marquee Senate race, according to an internal poll released by Morrisey’s campaign.

A poll conducted by 1892 Polling for Morrisey’s campaign, which was obtained first by The Hill, shows Morrisey and Manchin tied at with 45 percent of the vote. Ten percent of the voters surveyed said they are undecided.

Morrisey’s ascent in the polls comes as he’s about to receive significant air cover from Republican allies.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) released an ad earlier this month claiming Manchin is “part of the problem” when it comes to gun rights.

The GOP-aligned Senate Leadership Fund (SLF) is out with a new ad this week claiming Manchin’s proclaimed support for gun rights is only an election-year show.

And Morrisey himself has a new ad this week, claiming Manchin and D.C. Democrats have “abandoned” West Virginia.

This race will be one to watch between now and November.
