POLL: Hawley Still Within Margin of Error of Incumbent McCaskill

Attorney General Josh Hawley (R-MO) is within the margin of error of Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO), according to a new poll released by Missouri Scout this week.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported:

The poll by Missouri Scout, a nonpartisan political news service, found McCaskill leading Hawley with 48 percent of the vote, to his 44 percent. The poll has a 3.27 percentage point margin for error.

That’s an improvement for McCaskill over a poll last month that showed her with a statistically insignificant 1-point lead over Hawley.

Given the poll’s margin of error, Hawley’s support could be anywhere between 41 percent and 47 percent, while McCaskill’s support could be anywhere between 45 percent and 51 percent. This means, effectively, the Missouri U.S. Senate race is anyone’s game.

Missouri is seen as a top U.S. Senate pickup opportunity by national Republicans.
